HARTFORD APPLE FESTIVAL: The Hartford Apple Festival will begin Friday at the township center at state Routes 7 and 305. The event will include live music, car show, food, carnival games and amusement attractions. There will be a horticulture show from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the fire hall, and a car show from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hartford United Methodist Church. The queen pageant is 7 p.m. Friday, and there will be a pet parade at 10 a.m. Saturday and a kids' tractor pull at noon Saturday. Sunday includes a church service at 10:30 a.m., a pie-eating contest at 1 p.m. and apple-peeling contest at 2 p.m.
The Apple Fest parade is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Route 7. Five Points Hartford Road between state Route 7 and Bushnell Campbell Road will be closed from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The township police department and neighboring law enforcement agencies will coordinate traffic control.
WATKINS TO SPEAK: The Youngstown Torch Club begins its 96th season as longtime Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins takes the podium at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Schwebel Room in Kilcawley Center on the Youngstown State University campus. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m.
Watkins will examine the case of Kenneth Biros, who was executed Dec. 8, 2009.

NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION TO MEET: The Northwest Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at Grace Methodist Church on Drexel Avenue, Warren. Guest speaker will be Ed Haller, director of the Warren Water Pollution Control Department.
TCFDWC PLAN CARDS: Trumbull County Federated Democratic Women's Club will meet at 6 p.m. today at Boscov's meeting room to finalize plans for the annual card party. Guest speaker will be State Rep. Lauren McNally, D-Youngstown.
Card party tickets are available for $8 from TCFDWC members.
The card party will be 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 at Howland Community Church and features door prizes, a raffle, table prizes and lunch.

PERI TO MEET: The Trumbull County Public Employee Retirees Inc., will meet at 10:45 a.m. (doors open 10:30) Wednesday at Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 North River Road NE, Warren.
This month's program will be presented by Patriot at Home, which provides in-home services for those with an illness or injury. Information about their new nonprofit organization, Patriot Cares, also will be shared.

ART MAKING: McKinley Memorial Library presents Art Making for teens ages 12 to 18 with the HELMS Foundation, from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. BUDDY WALK: The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley is hosting its 16th annual Buddy Walk at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 at Eastwood Field in Niles. Registration begins at 11:45 a.m.
GENEALOGY SOCIETY TO MEET: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Grant Room of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. This is a change of venue.

AFTERSCHOOL SNACKS: The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, is partnering with the Children's Hunger Alliance to provide afterschool snacks to children and teens from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Warren Library, throughout the school year.
