FOOD FRIDAY: Howland Township will present a Food Truck Friday event 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Richard E. Orwig Park. The event will be held rain or shine. People can bring lawn chairs. Music will be provided by Steve Vuich and the River Saints. The food truck event is held the third Friday of the month through September.
ST JOE'S MEETING: A community meeting on the former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital will be 6 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1725 Drexel Ave. NW, Warren. Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership will speak about the possible next step for the former hospital site as well as discuss the updated citywide parcel inventory.
DISABILITY AWARENESS: Developmental Disabilities Awareness Night will be held today at the Scrappers Eastwood Field in Niles with gates opening at 6 p.m. The Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull county boards of developmental disabilities are partnering to present the event with the theme "Celebrate Abilities and Better Together." Thirty limited-edition jerseys will be auctioned to fans to benefit the Fairhaven Foundation.
LEARN CHESS: Local chess enthusiasts will explain how to play chess from 2 to 3 pm. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Registration is needed by calling 330-652-1704, Ext. 3.
GUEST SPEAKERS: Joe Tucciarone and Ben Lariccia, authors of "Coal Wars in the Mahoning Valley; The Origin of Greater Youngstown's Italians," will be discussing their book 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Museum in Niles. Refreshments will be served. An exhibit of the coal strike of 1873 will be displayed.
RESERVATIONS DUE: The Public Employee Retirees of Mahoning County Chapter 18 is accepting reservations until Tuesday for the noon luncheon meeting Aug. 1 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 Western Reserve Road. Cost is $15 per person. A 50 / 50 raffle also is included.
