Seeing eye: Flag retirement ceremony in Vienna

FLAG DAY ACTIVITIES: Vienna VFW Post 3521 will host an American Flag retirement ceremony at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the fire pit at New Life Community Church, located next to Yankee Kitchen. The VFW will be retiring all the flags that were deposited at the box at the Vienna Fire Department.

STRAWBERRY SOCIAL: Central Christian Church, 2051 East Market St., Warren, will host its annual strawberry social inside from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The tradition started in 1951 when it was held in the street on Belvedere because the church building was not completed yet. There will be hot food and refreshments. Carryouts are also available. SUMMER READING: McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will kick off its summer reading program from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a "Wizard of Oz" themed escape room at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Teens ages 12 to 18 are invited to enjoy different activities each week. On June 22, watch anime and learn about Japanese culture at Anime Club. On June 29, relax with and read to service dogs provided by PAWS Therapy Dogs. Registration is required for both programs at 330-652-1704 ext. 4.

SUMMER CAMP: A free kinship summer camp will be offered by the Family Caregiver Support Program, which has programs that provide support services to caregivers of older adults. A kinship camp will be Monday to Thursday June 20 to Aug. 5 at the camp in Kinsman. The camp is designed for children who are being raised by grandparents or older adults. LUNCHEON SET: The Warren Women's Connection will host its monthly luncheon 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at DiLucia's Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road NE, Warren. The theme is "Fun with Crafts." Maggie Paul will lead in making a "Make and Take" craft. Speaker is Marilou Johnson, who will be sharing about "Every which way but up." The cost is $15, or $11 if you are a first-time guest.

WONDROUS WEDNESDAYS: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will offer Wondrous Wednesdays at 2 p.m. each Wednesday with this week being musician Tom Seiling. On June 21 is the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County and June 28 is the HELMS Foundation in the museum audtitorium.

COOKING DEMONSTRATION: The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, is offering a cooking demonstration 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Representative of Mercy Health-Youngstown will offer colorful and nutritious demonstrations. The program is free, but registration is required at jccyoungstown.org

COMMUNITY CARNIVAL: The Girard Free Library will host a summer community carnival kickoff for families 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. There will be various activities and games.

NILES ALUMNI HALL OF FAME: Niles McKinley Memorial High School is seeking nominations for the Niles Alumni Hall of Fame. Nomination forms are available at the school district website under the alumni tab at nilescityschools.com. The alumni game is Aug. 18 and the banquet is Aug. 20 at Ciminero's. Deadline for nominations is Thursday.

GARAGE SALES: The 15th annual West Farmington Community garage sales with more than 60 families participating will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Maps will be available at the post office and local stores. Call Dawn at 330-889-2753 for more information.
