Library unveils renovations

LIBRARY REOPENS: The Brookfield Library Branch, 7032 Grove St., will reopen to the public at 9 a.m. today after being closed since December when a water pipe in the building ruptured during extremely cold temperatures. Water from the leak caused damage to the drywall, furnishings, equipment and carpeting at the library. Computers, printers, the circulation desk, and some shelving also needed to be replaced. The newly renovated library includes new checkout desk, new carpeting, improved lighting and new tables and chairs.

TRAIN SHOW: The third annual Northeast Ohio Large Scale Train Show will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Put on by the Riverside Railroad Club, the show will take place at the Warren SCOPE Center, 375 North Park Ave., Warren.

The show is an all G scale train show with over 3,600-square feet of trains and accessories for sale. The club's large operating indoor G scale layout also will be open for attendees to see and enjoy. There also will be hourly door prize drawings, and concessions will also be available.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT: The Vienna Historical Society is seeking volunteers to help at the inaugural golf outing fundraiser on Sunday. Basket raffle items are also being sought for the event. The society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Copper Benny building, 4275 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna. Those interested in helping or donating a basket are asked to attend.

PRESS CLUB TO MEET: The Youngstown Press Club will meet for a summer winery event from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the L'uva Bella Winery, 6597 Center Road, Lowellville. Owners Marisa Sergi and her husband, Evan Schumann, will explain how their local winery grew into distribution of their products across nine states with their innovative marketing strategy.

Within three years after acquiring the business, Sergi and Schumann were named to this year's Forbes 30 Under 30 list of young entrepreneurs.

GIRARD LIBRARY MEETING: The Friends of the Girard Free Library will host its annual meeting at 6 p.m. today in the library's community room. Current Friends members and those wanting to be a member are welcome. Library Director Pam Saganich will discuss latest news about the library and the opportunities the Friends provide supporting the library.

LIBRARY FIBER ARTS: McKinley Memorial Library is presenting Needles, Hooks and Books from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday. Guests should bring their knitting, crocheting or sewing project to the library and enjoy spending time with other fiber artists. Lessons will not be provided.

PET FOOD AND TOY DRIVE: The McKinley Memorial Library is partnering with the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County to host a pet food and toy drive throughout the month of June. Requested donations include cat or dog food (dry or canned), dry kitten or puppy food, cat or dog toys (no rope toys or catnip), nylon dog collars of all sizes, and Care Fresh bedding for small pets. Donations may be dropped off at the library in Niles or at the Animal Welfare League, Route 193 in Vienna. Make sure donations are unopened and unexpired.
