STEPS FOR SAFE SLEEP: The Eva Rose Foundation, a non-profit, invites everyone to its first fundraiser, Steps for Safe Sleep Awareness Walk, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Courthouse Square in Warren, in memory of Eva Rose Hughes, who died at 19 months old while in another's care.
There will be prizes and drawings for Robins Theater event tickets and a traveling crib (must be present for prizes and drawings).
The Eva Rose Foundation's mission is to promote safe sleep for infants and young children. For information, contact Larry McGinnis at 330-647-7180.
MUSIC CLUB TO MEET: Warren Music Club, a member of the Ohio and National Federation of Music Clubs, will meet 3 p.m. Sunday at the home of Karl and Jeannine Morris for a program open to the public. Amanda Beagle will sing "Sourwood Mountain," an Appalachian folk song in Together We Sing, which is published by NFMC. Beagle teaches musical theater for SMARTS (Students Motivated by the ARTS) to students at Lincoln and McGuffey Elementary Schools in Warren.
Guest musician Rebecca Bickel will perform sacred oboe solos. Bickel is retired as director of bands at Maplewood High School and is principal oboist in the W. D. Packard Band that presents free monthly concerts at the Packard Music Hall. The attendees will sing "This Is My Country" accompanied by Karen Hunt. The story of "This Is My Country" from Songs Sung, Red, White and Blue by Ace Collins will be presented by Karl Morris as the NFMC Approved Course of Study.
For Music in Poetry, Ben Olsen will read "With Music Strong I Come" by Walt Whitman from A Year in Verse published by NFMC. Refreshments will be served by Ruth Parker and Ann Luketic following the program.
FILM SHOWING: Filming took place in March at Kinsman Presbyterian Church for a movie with cast members in period clothing, playing an Ashtabula church choir listening to a Gospel reading at a group funeral. It depicts days after the 1876 Ohio tragedy, detailed in "Engineering Tragedy: The Ashtabula Train Disaster." At 7 p.m. today the film's producers will be showing the PBS documentary to the general public on a big screen in the Kinsman Presbyterian Church off state Route 7. Several actors in costume and crew members from the film's production typically also visit with movie attendees. The church was used as a filming location for several of the documentary's most emotionally moving scenes.
BIRDHOUSE PAINTING: The McKinley Memorial Library, 40 N. Main St., Niles, is offering a birdhouse painting program from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Participants will paint a wooden birdhouse to keep or donate. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, Ext. 3.
STAINED GLASS: Trumbull Art Gallery will offer a stained-glass class Make and Take stained glass class noon to 3 p.m. April 20. Each workshop will offer participants a choice of completing either a peace dove or a stained glass art piece. To register call 330-395-4876.
REPTILE SHOW: The Northeast Ohio Reptile Show will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Metroplex Expo Center, 1629 Motor Inn Drive, Liberty. Admission is $6 with children ages 10 and under free. There will be more than 100 tables of reptiles, amphibians and arachnids.
TEEN ART SHOW: The Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman, will hold an art show "Speak Your Peace" 2:30 p.m. Sunday. "Speak Your Peace" gives teens a chance to share their perspective on issues of happiness, loneliness, depression, anger and hope. LIBERTY CLEANUP: Liberty Township will hold a community-wide cleanup from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Any clubs, groups, or families interested in cleaning an area are to meet at the administration building to be assigned a street to clean or clean your own street. TITANIC SHOW: Warren Historical Players will present the story behind the Titanic 2 p.m. Sunday at the Charbenay's Winery, 220 W. Market St., Warren. Dinner and show are $35. Sharon George, the great granddaughter of the founder of the Joy Cone Co., will describe her great-grandmother's dreadful adventure as a passenger aboard the sinking Titanic.
PURSE BINGO: The St. William Church Women's Guild will hold a purse bingo fundraiser April 20. There will be purse and door prizes, 50-50 raffle and dinner. Tickets are $40. Call 330-360-1568.
SWING INTO SPRING: Champion Schools Seniors Advisory Council will hold the annual Swing into Spring annual dinner theater and awards program 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the Champion PK-8 School cafetorium.
