Train disaster film to be shown

VIENNA SOCIETY HOSTS PROGRAM: The Vienna Historical Society will host the showing of the film "Engineering Tragedy: The Ashtabula Train Disaster" at 6:30 p.m. today at the Vienna United Methodist Church hall. The movie is two hours, and a quick intermission will take place. Guests may take a blanket or cushion to sit on.

BETA CHI DINNER: Beta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will meet at 5:30 p.m. April 6 at Ciminero's Banquet Centre in Niles. Carrie Sinkele will present a program on robotics. The cost of the dinner is $22, and anyone not attending the meeting must call Barb Layfield at 330-898-1196. Delta Kappa Gamma is a society for outstanding educators.

SPRING CRAFTS: Brookfield United Methodist Church is hosting a Spring Craft and Vendor Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be 30 tables in the upstairs fellowship hall. Vendor tables and gift card raffles, food and drink concessions will be available. Admission is free, but donations to the church's food pantry would be appreciated.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD: The Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America will be assisting the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley this year by asking local Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews and Explorer Posts to either put door hangers in neighborhoods, work with churches or partner with schools in their areas to expand the understanding for the need for food for families in the Mahoning Valley.

This effort runs through Saturday. These Scouting units will be accepting nonperishable food items (nothing frozen or in glass) from homes, churches and schools and gathering these items to deliver to one of two sites from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Scouting units in Trumbull County will drop off at Troop 101's Scout House, 3002 Reeves Road NE, Warren. The public also is welcome to take food donations to the site Saturday during the same hours. All food items collected will be turned over to the food bank.

ROTARY AND ROBOTICS: The Girard-Liberty Rotary and the Girard FIRST Robotics Aptiv Team will host a fundraiser 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Girard Italian Fraternal Hall, 33 W. Wilson Ave.

GIRARD CEMETERY CLEANUP: Spring cleanup is being held at the Girard City Cemetery through Sunday for removing Christmas decorations. Starting April 3, employees will be removing decorations in preparation for Easter and Memorial Day.

METAL DETECTORS TO MEET: Metal Detecting with Trumbull Treasures will be 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Kinsman Free Library. The program is for adults with preregistration required at the library. Trumbull Treasure Hunters will share their tips and tricks for metal detecting, including showcasing local finds and an outdoor demonstration, weather permitting.
