Dance group hosts Snowflake Ball

SNOWFLAKE BALL: The USA Dance (Youngstown Warren Chapter No. 2015) Snowflake Ball is 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the historic Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State St., Girard.

The evening will feature dinner, dancing and a show.

Enjoy a night of dancing to holiday favorites (waltz, foxtrot, tango, quickstep, Viennese waltz, polka and Country Two Step), Latin (cha cha, rumba, bolero, mambo, salsa and merengue), swing (East Coast, West Coast and Lindy) and hustle.

This year’s show will feature “The Joy of the Holiday Season.” Advance ticket sales only.

COMMUNITY TREE LIGHTING: Students from The Chalker High School music department in Southington will perform during the Community Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at the gazebo. Everyone is welcome and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the fire station to visit with children.

HOLIDAY ART SHOW: The Fairhaven Foundation will present “A December to Remember Holiday Art Show” 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Outreach Gallery inside the Eastwood Mall in Niles.

More than 200 pieces of art will be on display from the calendar art contest and “Painting with Rick for the Holidays.”

All artwork is created by individuals supported through Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities and The Fairhaven Foundation.

Winning artists of the foundation’s recent contest will be available to autograph the new 2022 Fairhaven Foundation calendar, which will be available for purchase during the event. Live entertainment will be provided by the John Reese Trio.

SCHOOL OFFERS MOWER MAINTENANCE: The Girard High School FIRST Robotics Aptiv Team No. 379 will host its annual lawn mower maintenance and winterization service on Saturday, in the back parking lot of Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road.

The team members, with supervision from their coaches and mentors, will be cleaning the mowers, changing the oil, sharpening and balancing the blades, filling the gas tank and adding fuel stabilizer.

Mowers can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and owners will be phoned when mowers are available for pickup. The charge is $40.

Proceeds from program will benefit the high school team and the Junior High School’s FIRST LEGO League Team.

SOCIETY OPEN HOUSE: The Niles Historical Society will host an open house 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 503 Brown St. The Ward-Thomas House Museum and newly renovated Westenfield Room will be decorated for Christmas. The house will be available for tours.

Hot cocoa and cookies will be served in the Westenfield Room. Grab bags for the children will be distributed.

The Westenfield Room has been renovated with funds provided by the estate of Walt Hewitt in memory of his father, O.O. Hewitt, who was director of public safety during Prohibition.
