Event set to honor county’s MIA, POW

LAYING OF ROSES: Laying of the Roses POW / MIA Day at the Trumbull County Veterans Memorial next to the Log Cabin will be at noon Friday. DESERT STORM REUNION: The 30th anniversary Desert Storm Reunion will be hosted by the 475th Quartermaster Group, and all veterans and their families who served in Operation Desert Shield or Operation Desert Storm are welcome. Veterans from other wars and conflicts also are invited to attend the event, which will be noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Sharon Elks Lodge 103, 260 E. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, Pa. There will be a brief military ceremony and a catered buffet meal.

Reservations must be made no later than Saturday. Provide your name, military unit, branch of service and the names of anyone else attending. The information is needed for the name tags to be made for those attending.

Make checks for the buffet meal ($11 per person) out to “Larry Scheetz” and send them to: 500 Buhl Blvd., Sharon, Pa. 16146. A receipt will be sent if email is provided. Contact Scheetz at thescheetz@gmail.com or call 724-977-1200.

COLLECTION TO HELP IDA SURVIVORS: The Diocese of Youngstown, in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is calling upon Catholics and others to support the efforts of the church in responding to the humanitarian needs arising from Hurricane Ida, local tornadoes and flooding, and any other projected weather related damage. Funds collected will be distributed where needed the most.

Catholic Charities USA, along with local agencies, will respond to immediate emergency needs first, as well as aid in long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts.

If a parish chooses to participate in a second collection, forward to Catholic Charities, Emergency Disaster Fund, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown, OH 44503.
