CORTLAND STREET FAIR: The annual Cortland Community Street Fair will be Thursday to Saturday in the city's downtown. The theme is "Lights Camera Action." Opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by Little Miss Cortland and Miss Cortland contests. Friday will be a hot dog eating contest and robotics demonstration. Saturday will be demonstrations by search and rescue dogs, a SWAT truck and Legos. There also will be nightly rides, food and musical entertainment. The parade is 6 p.m. Saturday.
SOCIETY TO MEET: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will meet 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Warren SCOPE Center, 375 N. Park Ave. Guest speaker is Audrey John, curator of the Ward Thomas House in Niles, who will speak about the museum and its artifacts. Meetings are free and open to the public.
BEATITUDE HOUSE COLLECTS SUPPLIES: Beatitude House is preparing for back to school and is collecting school supplies for children and young adults served by the organization. A collection is being taken both online and in-person. An Amazon registry has been created to help maintain social distancing, but items also can be dropped off 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday until Aug. 16 at the Beatitude House administrative offices, 238 Tod Lane, Youngstown. The Amazon registry can be found on Beatitude House's website and social media platforms. Donations of gift cards for Target and Walmart are also appreciated.
GUEST SPEAKER: The Hubbard Public Library will host Hubbard native Walter "Buzz" Pishkur at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a presentation "Reflections of a Pacesetter" in which he highlights leadership lessons gained from his 33 years in executive leadership. Following the presentation will be a question and answer session and book signing. A portion of the book signing will be given to the library to benefit the hot spot lending program. Registration is required by calling 330-534-3512, ext. 2.
END OF SUMMER: The Girard "End of Summer" parade will be 7 p.m. Saturday along U.S. Route 422. The event will include bands, classic cars, dance groups, sports teams and organizations. LITTLE FREE LIBRARY: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles has a Little Free Library in Stevens Park that is a mini McKinley Birthplace Home situated at the end of the park's story walk. There will be a wide selection of books to choose from. Little Free Libraries are found in all 50 states and more than 100 countries.
