Kinsman hosting Safety Forces Day

FREE EVENT AT TOWNSHIP PARK: The annual Safety Forces Day will start 10 a.m. Saturday at Kinsman Township Park. The event is free and will include police dog and fire department demonstrations, fire safety trailer, rollover machine, a life-flight helicopter and water battle. The local American Legion will have food for purchase. Children can bring their own bikes to take part in the bike rodeo. Registration for children ages 4 to 12 is 10 to 11:30 a.m. Children who take part in four events and are present can win prizes.

CEMETERY TOUR: An Oakwood Cemetery, 860 Niles Road, walking tour will be held 1 p.m. Saturday hosted by the Trumbull County Historical Society in partnership with the Oakwood Cemetery Association. The event will be a tour of the cemetery where most of Warren’s industrial barons and manufacturing pioneers are buried. Tours will last 1 1/2 hours, cost $10 per person and are capped at 15 people per tour. Advance tickets are required by clicking the link at the historical society website at www.info@


STRAWBERRY EVENT: St. Paul Lutheran Church, East Market Street, Warren, will hold a strawberry social from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday open to the public.

COLLECTION SET: The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers are sponsoring a prescription drug disposal event today at Eastwood Field. The sheriff’s office will be collecting unused, unwanted, expired medications in the TAG trailer. Free general admission tickets will be given for that evening’s West Virginia Black Bears vs. Mahoning Valley Scrappers game for each container of medication brought for proper disposal. Gates open at 6 p.m. Game time is 7:05 pm. For the safety of volunteers, keep medications in their original containers. All containers will be recycled. NOMINATIONS SOUGHT: The Niles McKinley Alumni Association is returning to its Hall of Fame banquet Sept. 5 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre on Main Street. Normal precautions will be in place. The alumni game is Sept. 3 against East, when new Hall of Fame members will be introduced before the game. Nomination forms for candidates are available on the Niles City Schools website under the tab “Alumni.” Nominations can be returned to Joyce Mahan, 1059 Griffin Court, Niles.

MUSIC IN PARK: The Howland Township summer “Music in the Park” concerts are planned for 6 p.m. the second and fourth Sundays of each month at the main township park.
