Committee marks 21st celebration

HONORING MLK: The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Scholarship Committee will host the 21st annual celebration honoring the life and legacy of King. The program “Reflect, Reset, Reach Forward” will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. today as a virtual celebration on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89259078123. There will be reflections from alumni scholars, community leaders and a panel discussion “Where Do We Go From Here?”

MLK WORKSHOP: The YWCA Mahoning Valley and the MLK Planning Committee will host a Martin Luther King Jr. workshop set for 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m today on Zoom, covering the topics criminal justice, health care and youth empowerment.

The theme this year is “Fifty-three Years Later: Remembering What is Civil: Doing What is Right.”

The workshop will be livestreamed and recorded. The workshop requires people to pre-register and select a break-out room of personal interest. For information, call 330-747-2125.

LIBRARY CLOSED FOR MLK: The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library locations and services will be closed today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

CLOTHING SHED REOPENED: The clothing donation shed at the Chestnut Ridge Church of God, 7215 Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard, which was closed temporarily during the pandemic, has reopened. The public can donate used clothing. The church received funding for donated clothing and additionally can use donations to serve community needs.

KINDNESS MOVEMENT: Premier Bank Kindness Movement surpassed $500,000 in commitments to community organizations. As part of a new movement to foster kindness, Powered By Kind People Fueled by You, has committed more than $535,000 in donations benefiting more than 75 community partners. The donations include support for Angels for Animals, Beatitude House, Boys and Girls Clubs of Youngstown, Jewish Community Center, Trumbull Community Action Partnership, and United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
