Lakeview holding holiday parade

EVENT IN CORTLAND TODAY: The Lakeview schools K-8 staff will host a holiday parade through Cortland starting at 12:30 p.m. today at the middle school. The parade will feature Elf on the Shelf, Cupcake, McSnowball and Santa Claus. The parade will last an hour throughout the city.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Salvation Army of Trumbull County, 270 Franklin St. SE, Warren, is hosting a free Christmas food distribution in Warren starting 10 a.m. today in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank and the National Guard. Food items will be distributed to the first 1,000 families. Participants are to enter from the Franklin Street side of their parking lot.

KSU VIRTUAL COMMENCEMENT: The Kent State University alumni family will grow by more than 2,500 new graduates as the university holds its fall commencement. The accomplishments of the Fall Class of 2020 will be recognized with a virtual commencement ceremony 11 a.m. Saturday, in accordance with Gov. Mike DeWine's order to prohibit mass gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 2,552 degrees will be conferred, consisting of 590 associate degrees, 1,572 bachelor's degrees, 353 master's degrees, 35 doctoral degrees and two educational specialist degrees.

TOY DONATIONS: The newly formed band, Ravine, composed of Frank Toncar of Cortland, Reese Maslen of Boardman and Hobie Butcher of Salem, are collecting new and lightly used toys to donate to the Children Services agencies of Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

Toncar, Maslen and Butcher met through the Youngstown music scene, playing at local venues downtown. The three artists now travel the country working as performers for renowned amusement parks, such as Cedar Point in Sandusky and Carowinds in Charlotte, NC.

FOOD GIVEAWAY: Cornerhouse Christian Church, 6954 Ridge Road, Hubbard, will host a nonperishable food giveaway noon to 2 p.m. today. People needing items are to pull into the back parking lot and go to the door with the awning. People are asked to stay in their vehicle and volunteers will place bags in car.

FREE COVID-19 TESTING: The Warren City Health Department will present free COVID-19 testing 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at Packard Music Hall, Warren. Registration is needed at by texting 407-300-7684. Masks are requried,

CRAFT / VENDOR SHOW: First Baptist Church of Howland, 8957 E. Market St., will host a live craft and vendor show 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The event, named the Procrastinator Event, will be for anyone who needs to get some last-minute shopping done. More than 50 vendors are taking part. Free admission. Wearing masks is required.

YOUTH BUILD SEEKS APPLICANTS: Youth Build Trumbull County is seeking applicants ages 16 to 24 who reside in Trumbull County to take part in the program, which strives to motivate youth into positive, responsible and contributing members of the community.
