Scrappers hosting trick-or-treat event
DRIVE-THRU HALLOWEEN: The Mahoning Valley Scrappers Halloween drive-thru trick or treat will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eastwood Field parking lot in Niles at $10 per car. A portion of the proceeds will go to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Cars can drive through a route of decorated vendor displays in the Eastwood Field parking lot, and each car (up to 4 kids per car) will receive prepackaged trick-or-treat bags at the end of the route. Cars must purchase a $10 “hangtag” ticket in advance to attend. Hangtags must be purchased online, and they will be mailed out prior to the event. There will be no in-person or day-of-event hangtag sales. Space is limited to the first 250 vehicles. The parking lot will open at 5 p.m.
Vendors are encouraged to decorate their display / cars in the Halloween spirit and also promote their business. There will be a prize for the best decorated vendor space, Vendors are asked to bring a minimum of 1,200 pieces of candy and promotional handouts / small promotional items in advance to add to prepackaged treat bags.
If the event is rained out, it will be rescheduled for the same time Wednesday.

GIRARD DRIVE THRU: Girard is hosting a drive-thru Halloween trunk or treat 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Girard municipal building parking lot. Girard families are invited to attend in their vehicles for the event where Mayor Jim Melfi, staff and volunteers will hand out candy by placing it in vehicles.
JA SCAVENGER HUNT: Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley is accepting registration for a family-friendly, app-based and socially distant scavenger hunt around Trumbull, Columbiana and Mahoning counties, beginning at 2 p.m. Nov. 1.
Cost is $25 per team of up to five players. Wear a costume for extra bonus points. A virtual finish line Zoom party will be held to announce the winners.
Prior to the event, JAMV will email instructions on how to download the Goose Chase app and game code to create your team. At the start of the event, teams will receive a password by text to begin the chase and to access the missions. The hunt begins 2 p.m. and will explore stops located in all three counties. Teams will take a photograph of their completed mission and post on Goose Chase in order to earn points.
A smartphone or smart device is required to play. Participants are asked to obey Ohio traffic and vehicle safety laws, as well as adhere to CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

CHECK OUT HUNGER: Walgreens stores in Mahoning and Trumbull counties through Thursday are participating in Check Out Hunger to support Second Harvest Bank. Customers can make donations of $1, $5 or $10 at the register.
Mahoning Valley last year raised $10,382 through the campaign which enabled the food bank to provide food and meals for hungry families in the the area.
THANKSGIVING APPLICATIONS: The Emmanuel Care Center in Girard currently is taking signups for Thanksgiving through Nov. 6. Families who are registered at the center and wish to receive assistance need to call 330-545-4301. Gift cards will be given to families instead of boxes of food. Families will receive a phone call of when they can pick up their gift cards. Anyone wishing to donate to the center are asked to make a monetary donations and donate gift cards to Walmart and Target. Donations for Thanksgiving are needed by Nov. 12.
