The Seeing Eye

SENIOR GIVEAWAY: The Mahoning County Educational Service Center career counselors will host a senior giveaway June 15 to 17, using money provided through a grant. The senior giveaway is for 2020 graduates from Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana and Portage counties.

When students arrive at their senior giveaway location, they will remain in their cars. Career counselors will fill cars with items as they move through the distribution line. These items will assist graduates continuing their education or a career after graduation.

Times are 10 a.m. to noon June 15 at Mahoning County ESC; 10 a.m. to noon June 16 at Columbiana High School; and 10 a.m. to noon June 17th at Warren G. Harding High School.

There will be only one giveaway per graduating high school student. The student must be present during pick up to receive the gift package. Giveaways are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

ICE CREAM FOR LABRAE SENIOR: Corner Ice Cream, 5047 W. Market St., Leavittsburg, at South Leavitt Road, will offer free ice cream for LaBrae High School Class of 2020 graduates from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday to Sunday.

LaBrae seniors can stop and show identification.

HELP SENIORS: To help ensure that older Ohioans stay connected while staying at home, the Ohio Department of Aging has started a new service that will provide a daily check-in by phone of Ohioans ages 60 and older.

The Staying Connected program will call older adults who sign up for the service during a predetermined window of time. When participants answer the phone, they will be asked to respond with touch tone to confirm that they are OK. If no one answers after three calls, a call is then made to an alternate contact who knows that person or to emergency services.

Eligible Ohioans can sign up at aging.ohio.gov or call 1-800-266-4346.
