Mosquito state park hosts event for youth

FISHING DERBY: Mosquito Lake State Park will host the fourth annual Youth Fishing Derby 9 a.m. Saturday at the Lakeview Recreation Area on the east side of the dam, 3061 Warren Meadville Road, Bazetta.

The derby is being hosted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Friends of the Mosquito Lake Park. Participants must be age 15 and younger. Bait, tackle and lunch will be provided.

BENEFIT TO HELP FAMILY: A benefit to help the Diane Crist family, who lost their home in a fire May 27 in Niles, will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pizza Hut in Niles. There will be a buffet dinner and many auction items available from community donations.

All proceeds raised will be given to help the Crist family.

CAMP MARSHMALLOW: Camp Marshmallow for children will be held 11 a.m. to noon each Wednesday through July 10 at the Eastwood Mall Center Court. Children will learn about something new each week through activities, interactive programs and guest speakers.

Campers will receive a Camp Marshmallow drawstring bag, water bottle and lanyard. Registrations will be accepted throughout the duration of the Camp Marshmallow Series. Call 330-652-6980, Ext. 104, for information.

TIE-DYE DAY: The McDonald Summer Recreation Program will present Tie-Dye Day 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Woodland park pavilion. Children may bring one item to tie dye.

PRIDE IN VALLEY: Pride in the Valley will be held 12:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Courthouse Square in Warren.

Pride in the Valley is a new annual festival with vendors, speakers, entertainment, networking and social opportunities for those who identify as LGBTQIA+, as well their friends and supporters.

The parade and festival are free. There will be a small Ferris wheel, bounce house, games and entertainment forchildren.

The parade begins at 12:30 p.m. from Perkins Drive NW, travels down Mahoning Avenue and circles the festival grounds. The festival officially opens at the commencement of the parade and will remain open until 10 p.m.
