KINSMAN — Molly Rink of Kinsman was among 12 Ohio Connections Academy students recognized as a winner of the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, which honors youth making a positive impact in their towns and neighborhoods.

The awards program is a youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service.

Rink, a junior at the online public charter school, was presented a certificate of merit in recognition of her support for others in the community. She babysits for single mothers at no charge so they are able to go to work. Rink also helps to raise money to buy food and supplies for the homeless.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are so proud of the students and the time and effort they have given to make a positive impact on their communities. Each of the students have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and a commitment to making our world a better place – they truly deserve this recognition,” said Marie Hanna, OCA superintendent.

The award program was created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor middle school and high school students for service to others at the local, state, and national level.

The awards are supported by Girl Scouts of the USA, National 4-H Council, American Red Cross, YMCA, HandsOn Network and many other national youth, service and educational organizations.
