Staff report Ohioans filed 6,853 initial unemployment claims the week of Jan. 18-Jan. 24, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday. That was 20 more than the previous week. Ohioans filed 65,361 continued unemployment claims last week, which was 870 fewer than the previous week. The total number of claims filed from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24 was 72,214. AAA: Gas prices in area jump

Gas prices are 10 cents higher in Northeast Ohio this week at $2.898 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report released Monday. As winter weather grips much of the nation, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded has gone up six cents over the past week to $2.88.
