Trump strikes deal with Putin

for diesel in reversal of US policy

WASHINGTON -- Trump says the U.S. will obtain diesel from Russia, relaxing years of US pressure on Moscow to combat prices ahead of midterms.

Trump said on social media on Friday that he struck the deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call. Trump announced that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by 500,000 tons more in November and 1 million tons "immediately thereafter."

Russia will deliver another 3 million tons "within a short period of time" after that, he wrote. The announcement comes after Trump signed a sweeping sanctions law against Russia last month to clamp down on Russia's energy economy.

Trump says tariffs have brought

more auto factories to America

DETROIT -- As President Donald Trump crisscrosses the country to rally support for Republican candidates, he is touting his economic agenda and crediting tariffs with economic growth -- including what he says are more vehicle manufacturing plants all over the country.

"Our car industry is coming back. They're leaving Canada, they're leaving Mexico, they're leaving Japan and Germany, South Korea. We're building car plants," Trump said.

Trump forms committee to probe

Federal Reserve's Lisa Cook

WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump opened another chapter in his effort to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook on Friday by establishing a "committee of inquiry" to investigate allegations that she made false statements in mortgage applications.

The extraordinary move follows a Supreme Court ruling in June that Cook could keep her job after Trump sought to fire her last year. That ruling found that Cook should have had notice and an opportunity to respond to the charges.

Americans 75 and older rank 1st

in wealth in US, survey finds

WASHINGTON -- Bolstered by steady gains in the stock market, families headed by someone aged 75 or older are now America's wealthiest, while the youngest families saw their wealth decline in the past three years, a government report released Friday said.

The finding from the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances underscores how robust stock market gains have made wealthier American families even richer since the survey, conducted every three years, was last completed in 2022.

Wall Street finishes with gains

in another record-setting week

NEW YORK -- The U.S. stock market finished its record-setting week with gains, even as other financial markets remained indecisive.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.6% Friday for its first gain since setting its all-time high three days earlier. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.8%, and the Nasdaq composite rose 0.6%. The strength came as the price of Brent crude oil swiveled up and down several times before settling slightly higher.

Treasury yields had similar swings in the bond market before the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.24%.

Babies across US now automatically

enrolled in Trump savings accounts

NEW YORK -- Your child may be enrolled in a "Trump Account" whether you realize it or not. Rolled out earlier this year, the Trump Accounts program allows parents to claim special investment accounts for children who are 18 years old or younger. And some babies are eligible to receive a one-time $1,000 contribution from the government. Now, due to automatic enrollment, the Treasury Department says that every eligible child with a valid Social Security number has a Trump Account. But parents and legal guardians would still need to formally activate the accounts if they haven't already.
