Gas prices are 33 cents higher in Northeast Ohio this week at $4.555 per gallon, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report released Monday.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is up 16 cents from last week at $4.47 and more than one dollar higher than it was a year ago. In Northeast Ohio, the average a year ago was $3.077.
Crude oil remains high, averaging $100 per barrel amid continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. Gas prices are back to what they were earlier this year during the spring, and the national average is inching closer to this year's record high of $4.56 set on May 21. The all-time high for the national average is $5.01 set on June 14, 2022.
The average price of unleaded self-serve gasoline Monday in Youngstown was $4.501 with Niles reporting $4.526.
The nation's top 10 most expensive gasoline markets are California ($6.17), Washington ($5.57), Hawaii ($5.53), Nevada ($5.29), Oregon ($5.10), Alaska ($5.06), Michigan ($4.91), Illinois ($4.90), Idaho ($4.86) and Utah ($4.81).
The nation's top 10 least expensive gasoline markets are Texas ($3.95), Mississippi ($3.97), Louisiana ($4.00), Alabama ($4.01), Indiana ($4.02), Oklahoma ($4.05), South Carolina ($4.06), Tennessee ($4.07), Arkansas ($4.08) and Georgia ($4.09).
