By Staff report 1 min read

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Aviation Education Center, a celebration of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport improvement and community development initiatives, will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The Aviation Education Center will serve as a hub for hands-on learning, workforce

development, career exploration and industry engagement, according to a news release from the Western Reserve Port Authority, which oversees airport operations.

Once completed, the $5.5 million facility will provide students and community members with access to innovative educational programming, aviation-focused training opportunities, and direct connections to career pathways within the aviation sector.

The project reflects the shared vision and collaboration of educational institutions, aviation organizations, industry partners, public agencies, businesses and community stakeholders committed to investing in the future of aviation education.

"We are excited to celebrate this important milestone with our partners and the community. This groundbreaking is just the beginning, and we look forward to seeing the jobs, growth and opportunities this project will bring to our region," said Anthony Trevena, executive director of the port authority.

Construction will be completed in August 2027, with programming anticipated to launch following completion of the facility.
