ALUMNI RECOGNIZED: The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University will present its Outstanding Alumni Awards on Oct. 20 at Williamson Hall at YSU.

The reception begins at 6 p.m. and the award presentation follows at 7 p.m.

This year's recipients are Charles George, CEO, Hapco, Inc. and Sapientia Ventures, LLC; David Stillwagon, CEO, Community Corrections Association, Inc.; and Marcy Angelo, director of operations, White Glove Payroll.

LOGISTICS CONFERENCE SCHEDULED: The first Mahoning Valley Logistics Conference is planned for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, 1453 Youngstown Kingsville Road.

The half-day event will feature panels and speakers discussing topics that relate to logistics sectors.

Featured will be Eastgate Council of Governments, county engineers' offices and the Western Reserve Port Authority on airport planning.

A panel will feature Joe Joseph with Americas at Doncasters and attorney Dennis Unkovic of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott and author of several books on global supply chain and international trade. The event also will feature a public policy discussion by the executive director of the Ohio Trucking Association, Thomas Balzer.

BUSINESS RESOURCE LAUNCHED: The Mahoning Valley Resource compass is a platform for small business owners and entrepreneurs in the Mahoning Valley to help launch and grow a business platform.

It is accessible at www.mahoning.biz.

Mahoning County commissioners along with Economic Action Group, Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber, Youngstown and Economic Impact Catalyst collaborated to implement the platform.

HOSPITAL EARNS 5-STAR RATING: The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods recently received a 5-star excellent overall rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

This recognition places Southwoods in the top percentile nationally, and it is the only hospital in the Mahoning Valley to earn the rating.

CMS assigns star ratings to U.S. hospitals annually based on their performance across five quality categories: safety of care, mortality, patient experience, readmission rates and timely and effective care.

DESIGNATION RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED: The Ohio Department of Higher Education has named the first group of Ohio colleges, universities and technical centers to earn the Ohio Reach Postsecondary designation for their efforts to support foster care-connected students.

The designation is awarded to those campuses meeting criteria that depict their support of students with experience in foster care or kinship. Ohio Reach is a network of professionals, advocates, and students across Ohio determined to support former foster youth on their education journey.

Local schools include Choffin Career and Technical Center, Kent State University and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

COMPANY MARKS MILESTONE: Public accounting firm Cohen & Company is marking its 40th year in business.

It was opened in 1977 by Ron Cohen, and in 1983, the office in Youngstown was opened. The firm now employs more than 50 people in the office.

HILL INTERNATIONAL TRUCKS CONTINUES TO GROW: Hill International Trucks of East Liverpool, recently announced the company will acquire Truck Sales Service, Inc., which includes five dealerships eastern and central Ohio. The locations in Canton, Mansfield, Marietta, New Philadelphia, and Norwalk, Ohio are full service International Truck, IC Bus, and Idealease dealerships.

With the acquisition, Hill International Trucks operates 10 locations between the International Truck, IC Bus, and Idealease franchises. In addition to those dealerships, the company also owns six NAPA Auto Parts locations and one Ford dealership.

GOLF TOURNAMENT IMPACTS LOCAL ECONOMY: The Mercy Health Foundation's American Junior Golf Association Junior All-Star event and preview events the week of June 19 set a new financial record of $436,087 in economic impact for the Mahoning Valley and a total of $2.6 million in economic windfall since its inception in 2016.

The tournaments at Mill Creek Golf Course hosted 356 junior competitors more than 100 volunteers, more than 40 college coaches from across the U.S. and 24 staff and interns from the AJGA.

The economic impact includes lodging for families and AJGA representatives, rental cars, dining and entertainment. In addition, a $7,200 donation was made between Mill Creek MetroParks Foundation and the AJGA Ace Grant that came from money raised for the AJGA tournament and Junior-Amateur event. To date, the AJGA event has raised more than $67,150 for local charities.

HUMTOWN CELEBRATED: As a component of its 70th anniversary nationwide celebration, the U.S. Small Business Administration recognized Humtown Products as an SBA Legacy Business at the company's additive manufacturing facility in Leetonia.

The SBA defines a legacy business as one that has benefited from utilizing SBA resources in the early stages of its development. Sixty-eight businesses across the nation have been honored with the recognition.

COVIELLO APPOINTED: Guy C. Coviello of Liberty, president / CEO of the Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber, has been reappointed by Gov. Mike DeWine to the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission for a term beginning Aug. 17 and ending June 30, 2028.

NEW HIRE AT CONSUMERS: Consumers National Bank has brought on Nick Mascitti of Alliance, as mortgage originator.

He joins the bank's six other mortgage originators who work in six counties in northeast Ohio. Mascitti has 28 years of experience in mortgage lending.
