FOCUS GROUPS PLANNED: The new Center for Nonprofit Excellence, which operates as a standalone nonprofit under the Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber, will hold focus groups 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday to help develop programming.
The center will provide training, resources and consulting services to area nonprofit organizations in areas such as management, human resources, accounting and finance, grant research and writing, marketing and public relations, measuring results and governance.
The sessions will be at the chamber's office on the fifth floor of City Centre One, 100 E. Federal St., Youngstown.

FARMERS NAMED TO LIST: Farmers National Bank of Canfield has been named among the nation's top 50 community banks by S&P Global Market Intelligence for its performance in 2022 with assets from $3 billion to $10 billion.
Farmers was the 29th best performing community bank in America and the second highest rated bank in Ohio.
To compile the ranking, S&P Global Market Intelligence calculated scores for each company based on seven metrics: pretax return on tangible common equity; efficiency ratio; cost of funds; five-year average operating revenue growth; five-year average net charge-offs to average loans and leases ratio; nonperforming assets and loans 90 days or more past due as a percentage of total assets; and leverage ratio.
DOMINION AWARDED: Dominion Energy Ohio is has received the 2023 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award – Energy Efficiency Program Delivery from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
The award recognizes companies that have made outstanding contributions in the transition to a clean energy future. Dominion Energy Ohio was recognized for its Home Performance with Energy Star program, a residential home energy assessment program.
The program allows customers to take part in an energy audit to evaluate how their home is using energy. Customers can earn up to $1,250 in rebates for eligible improvements.
GOODWILL GETS FOUNDATION AWARD: Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries has received a $2,500 grant from the Warren Area Chamber of Commerce Education, Civic and Cultural Foundation for clothing and household vouchers for its Trumbull County partner agencies.
With the grant, Goodwill will be able to add two new community partner agencies and increase the amount of vouchers it can distribute in Trumbull County, according to the agency.
Through its voucher program, Goodwill works with other community agencies to provide clients with Goodwill vouchers that can be redeemed for needed merchandise at any of their retail stores. The partners, primarily nonprofit organizations, serve low- to moderate-income individuals, which ensures the individuals who need these resources can benefit from the program.
EGCC HAS BILLBOARDS: Eastern Gateway Community College has launched a new billboard campaign aimed at attracting students and promoting their debt-free college education. They will remain up through mid-July.
In Trumbull County, the billboard is at 3825 Belmont Ave., Liberty, and in Mahoning County, the signs are at 6400 South Ave., Boardman, and the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and Raccoon Road. In Columbiana County, the billboard is on state Route 11 about four miles south of Columbiana.
CHAMBER, PAYROLL FIRM PARTNER: The Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber has partnered with White Glove Payroll in Liberty to offer chamber members discounts on payroll and other services.
Services offered by White Glove Payroll include payroll processing, tax compliance, timekeeping and human resources consulting.
Chamber members can expect to receive discounts up to 20 percent off applicable services and additional resources at no cost.
E-ZPASS USAGE UP: Through the first quarter of 2023, combined E-ZPass use by passenger car and commercial truck customers on the Ohio Turnpike on average was 76.3 percent, up 0.5 percent compared to the same three-month period in 2022.
Separately, over the same three-month period, on average, 64.7 percent of passenger car customers used E-ZPass, up 2.3 percent; and 90.8 percent of commercial truck customers used E-ZPass, up 1.1 percent.
The turnpike's passenger car customers traveled 358.2 million miles, up 8.9 percent; and commercial truck customers traveled 283.1 million miles, down 2.8 percent, during the first quarter of 2023.
Over the same period, passenger cars made 7.9 million trips, up 5.6 percent; and commercial trucks made 2.9 million trips, down 3.9 percent.
AKRON CHILDREN'S OPENS OPERATING ROOM: Akron Children's Hospital has opened a dedicated operating room for child, adolescent and young adult spine surgeries, which has, at its centerpiece, the nView s1 navigation system.
As the second children's hospital in the country and the first in the Midwest to use the nView system, Akron Children's pediatric orthopedic surgeons now have the benefit of three-dimensional images of the spine in real time in the operating room.
In addition to an estimated 80 percent reduction in the radiation exposure for patients, the system allows surgeons to navigate seeing a true representation of the anatomy.

FARMERS GROWS TEAM: Farmers National Bank has expanded its mortgage lending team with the recent hire of Karen Jindra as mortgage sales manager out of Fairlawn.
Jindra has been in the mortgage business for more than 25 years. She has experience working with first-time home buyers, move-up buyers, FHA loans, VA, conventional, jumbo, renovation loans, new construction, home affordable, lot loans, refinancing as well as second mortgages.
