YSU BRINGS ON WORKFORCE DIRECTOR: Jennifer Oddo, who has led workforce development efforts at IBM for the past five years, is the new executive director of Strategic Workforce Education and Innovation at Youngstown State University.
Oddo will lead the YSU Center for Workforce Education and Innovation, a newly formed entity that focuses on new approaches to close the skills and opportunity gaps for our communities.
The center will work to advance how higher education partners with industry and the community to build workforce strategies and programs leveraging YSU's national Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program, pre-apprenticeship, industry training and credentials.
Oddo has worked in various talent and workforce positions at IBM since 2015. She most recently served as IBM's co-chair of the Consumer Technology Association Apprenticeship Coalition, where she led IBM's industry initiatives to scale external workforce and apprenticeship initiatives with member companies.
LIBERTY BUSINESSES LAUNCH CAMPAIGN: Some small business owners in Liberty have come together to launch Liberty for All, a collaborative marketing campaign that shares resources, boosts promotional efforts and calls on Mahoning Valley residents to rediscover and patronize these local businesses.
Some of the participating businesses are Bull & Bear Tavern, Goodwill Industries, Jerusalem Market, Station Square, the Supply Room and Raks Nearly New.
DINNER BOOSTS MVCAP PROGRAMS: The Mahoning Valley College Access Program recently had its dinner fundraiser, attracting 80 guests and raising $2,500 for programs that help inner-city high school students shape their futures.
MVCAP provides resources and tools that help high school students in Warren, Youngstown and Campbell explore post-secondary education, career / technical training, workforce opportunities and military service.
The Warren-based nonprofit has hosted the event since 2015.
FALLS BUSINESS AWARDED: The Newton Falls Area Commerce Association has given its 2020 Business of the Year award to Fieldview Acres Mercantile.
The business has promoted commerce growth in Newton Falls by volunteering time and giving money in all of the downtown events the association has put on this year, including Dicker Day, Autumn in the Falls and the Christmas on Broad Street Prayer Vigil and Tree Lighting.
Fieldview Acres Mercantile, 36 W. Broad St., sells old advertising, vintage toys, antiques, primitives, specialty treats, artisanal products and seasonal decor.

DR. JOINS TRMC, STEWARD MEDICAL GROUP: Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Steward Medical Group have brought on Dr. Saad Hatahet, urologist, to Steward Multispecialty Care, Trumbull, 1353 E. Market Street, Suite 301, Warren.
Hatahet has a clinical interest in benign prostate problems, early detection and treatment of prostate cancer, kidney and bladder malignancies, kidney, ureter and bladder stones, voiding dysfunction including overactive bladder and incontinence, erectile dysfunction, urinary tract infections and hematuria workup.
