• FARMERS WINS NATIONAL AWARD: Raymond James, one of America's top financial services institutions, selected Farmers National Banc Corp. of Canfield for 2017 Raymond James Community Bankers Cup. Of the 272 banks nationwide that qualified, only 28 demonstrated the superior financial performance and stability to be named Bankers Cup winners. In its awards announcement, Raymond James noted that 2017 was a particularly challenging year for community banks, with most underperforming from 2016; however, Farmers and the other winners outperformed NASDAQ's Bank Index.
• YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR ROUND TABLE SET FOR KSU-TRUMBULL: In anticipation of National Small Business Week, April 29 to May 5, eight young entrepreneurs will gather and discuss challenges and successes as they continue to establish their businesses in the Mahoning Valley.
The Young Entrepreneurs Roundtable, presented by Kent State University at Trumbull and the Business Journal, will be held April 26 in Kent State Trumbull Auditorium. Entrepreneurs include Joe Asente, Millennial Theatre Company; Adam Keck, Modern Methods Brewing Company; Sarra Mohn, Jet Creative; Sydney Olejnik, Millennial Theatre Company; Logan Reinard, Nova Coffee Co.; Emily Rusu, Jet Creative; Marisa Sergi, RedHead Wine; and Deryck Toles, Inspiring Minds.
The roundtable is from 3 to 4:30 p.m. After the event, attendees are invited to meet the entrepreneurs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Modern Methods Brewing Company, 125 David Grohl Alley in downtown Warren.

• FARMERS NATIONAL BANK HAS NEW VP: Farmers National Bank welcomed James Boots as vice president, eastern region mortgage sales manager. Boots has more than two decades of financial and lending experience, where he most recently served as a vice president and loan officer at both national and regional financial institutions. He will lead the team of lenders in the eastern region in identifying the right home mortgage program for each client's unique needs.

• WARREN BREWERY TO OPEN: Modern Methods Brewing Company, founded by Adam Keck, will celebrate a grand opening 3:30 p.m. Friday at 125 David Grohl Alley, Warren.
Keck started brewing his own beer back in 2011 for fun but knew his love of brewing was going to become much more than a hobby some day. After working in IT at a manufacturing company and immersing himself in all aspects of the business, Adam realized he could apply the same principles to running his own company -- a brewery, thus opening the first craft brewery and tasting room in Warren since the George Clements Brewery closed its doors in 1880.

• ONE HOT COOKIE FRANCHISE TO OPEN: A gourmet cookie and ice cream shop will open in the heart of Amish country this spring as One Hot Cookie's first franchise. Barnby Brand, based in Akron, has inked a deal to open a new shop on Main Street in Berlin in May. One Hot Cookie, founded in Youngstown in 2013, has three locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. • OHIO UTILITIES PROTECTION SERVICES OPENS: Ohio Utilities Protection Service, the state's one-call headquarters, will cut the ribbon on its new 17,000-square-foot building at 12467 Mahoning Ave., North Jackson. Ohio Utilities Protection Service is a resource for Ohio residents and businesses, with a mission to prevent damage to underground facilities and promote public safety by providing an efficient and effective communication and education process.
• FAMILY FIRST ADULT DAY SERVICES OPENS: This facility, providing a safe place for seniors to go during the day, will open Thursday in at 4199 Kirk Road, Austintown. It provides transportation, meals, snacks, activities, personal care assistance and medical monitoring. The organization offers a free, one-time, two-hour session. An open house will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
