GIRARD — Sidewalk installation by the high school and street paving of several roads have been given approval by city council for this summer and fall.
Council on Monday approved a contract with Foust Construction of Girard for the sidewalks installation project on Stull and Highland avenues and other streets near the high school at $96,255.
Safety/ Service Director Jerry Lambert said with the schools closed to students for the first nine weeks with all learning online, the project will be able to be done shortly.
The Ohio Department of Transportation project will have the cityás local share at $26,000.
“The project is ready to be started. The kids are not going to be going to school, so we can get this done,” Lambert said.
As for street paving, nine streets will be repaved this year as a contract with RT Vernal Paving and Excavating of North Lima was approved at $208,376.
Streets scheduled for paving are: Stull Avenue between Highland Avenue and Shannon Road; Shawnee Trail to 100 feet at bottom of Squaw Creek Drive; Smithsonian Avenue between North Avenue and U.S. Route 422; Mohican Trail; Second Street from St. Clair to East Street; Wellman Avenue from Prospect to Hazel; Powers Avenue from Ward to Highland; and all of Parkview Avenue and Summit Street
Lambert said bids for street resurfacing this year were opened with the Trumbull County Engineer’s office estimating the cost at $230,000. Four bids were received and RT Vernal Company was the lowest bidder at $208,000.
He said plans are for paving 11 streets in 2021 as an Eastgate Regional Council of Governments project with 11 streets with projected cost around $455,000. The city would pay 63 percent of the total at $285,000 and the restwould come from ODOT.
“We will do as much paving as we can in the next two years. We want to get 20 streets paved by 2021,” Lambert said.
