Italian fest celebrates 40th edition

Corey Hovance doesn’t remember the first Warren Italian-American Heritage Festival. He’s only 39 years old, and his grandfather, Lou Metter, founded the downtown Warren festival in 1985 before he was born, but he believes his grandfather would be proud to know that the event is celebrating its 40th edition today through Sunday. “I think he'd be happy that it's still going strong,” Hovance said. “We're still trying to keep up with the times, but celebrating our past. It’s a lot of hard work. The volunteers and the board members take time away from their families. But ...

New Waterford gets Amped Up

Mayors and administrators in small communities often wear many hats. Concert promoter normally isn’t one of them. Amped Up brings three days of music to New Waterford Village Park this weekend, and it’s the first of two music festivals this summer planned at the village-owned park. The nonprofit group organizing both events is led by New Waterford Mayor Shane Patrone and Village Administrator Jason Gorby. “We’re a small town, about 1,300, 1,500 people, not a lot of industries,” Patrone said. “There’s not a lot of money for our park and to do events and other ...

Myles readies post-‘Voice’ and post-breakup album

Breakups are painful, but for an artist they can be inspirational. A crowd favorite at Morgan Myles’ recent concerts is “Nobody in Nashville Wants You Here,” a song about her breakup with her fiance earlier this year. “I learned that my ex-hole decided to stay in my teeny town of Hendersonville, Tennessee, five minutes down the road, which is just complete psycho,” Myles said. The reaction has been so strong, Myles said they’re trying to figure out how to include it on her upcoming album, which already was finished. It’s sure to be part of the set when Myles closes ...

Gray Areas: Train back at amp, local filmmaker to be part of festival

Assorted ramblings from the world of entertainment: • There’s a Train scheduled for downtown Youngstown on Tuesday. Its destination isn’t the B&O Station; it’s the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre. This Train is the San Francisco-based band led by Erie, Pa., native Pat Monahan. It will be the group’s second appearance there, following a 2021 show when the concert industry was in the early months of restarting post-COVID. My first time seeing Train was at least 20 years earlier, when they played Star Lake as part of an X Fest where they were a kind of odd band out ...
