Youngstown main library hosts America250 event
An America250 Celebration is planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
The event will include a talk by award-winning science fiction author John Scalzi, whose books include "Old Man's War," "Redshirts" and "Starter Villain." It also will include games, crafts, music, prizes, library and local history displays and historical reenactor Benjamin Frayser.
Festivities will conclude with America250 bingo at Noble Creature Wild Ales & Lagers. For more information, go to libraryvisit.org.
Vienna Sumer Concert Series starts Sunday
Guys Without Ties will open the Vienna Summer Concert Series on Sunday.
The horn-driven classic rock act will play at 6 p.m. at the township's Bicentennial Gazebo at Warren-Sharon Road.
It is the first of six Sunday concerts planned through Aug. 16. Admission is free, and concerts will be moved to Vienna United Methodist Church Hall in the event of rain.
AAC gallery displays 'Hidden Nature' exhibit
"Joan Pogalies: The Hidden Nature of Nature" is the July exhibition at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St.
Pogalies manipulates original photographic images, cropping, enlarging, stacking and flipping to create unrecognizable configurations printed on metal panels using heat-infused pigments. Her work has been shown at AAC, Photo Cleveland, Tri-C East and Kendal at Oberlin Art Gallery.

D-Day museum in Conneaut plans open house Saturday
The Everly Sisters will perform Saturday for the annual open house of the D-Day Ohio WWII Museum, 851 Harbor St., Conneaut.
The Everley Sisters are a three-part harmony trio in the style of the Andrews Sisters and will sing at 1 and 3 p.m. A new exhibition, "Shore Leave: Honolulu," will be on display and other exhibits have been updated to include information on more than 420 WWII veterans.
The open house is free, but donations will be accepted The annual D-Day Conneaut reenactment is scheduled Aug. 13 to 15 at Conneaut Township Park. For tickets or more information, go to ddayohio.us.
MVHS series looks at summer gatherings
"Welcome Back: Mahoning Valley Homecomings, Picnics & Gatherings" is the topic of the next Bites and Bits of History program at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown.
Traci Manning, Mahoning Valley Historical Society curator of education, will explore events from Old Home Week to company picnic days at Idora Park and share images and stories from those who gathered to share meals and make memories.
The program starts at noon July 16. Admission is free, and those attending are encouraged to bring their lunch to enjoy during the talk. For more information, go to mahoninghistory.org.
McGuffey series offers Monkey's Nest program
Jacob Harver will talk about Youngstown's Monkey's Nest neighborhood for the next William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society's Memories of a Lifetime program.
Hugging the Mahoning River, throngs of immigrants settled in the multiethnic working-class enclave known as Monkey's Nest. The area gave birth to multitudes of stories and tales. Harver is a local historian, preservationist and Kent State University Ph.D. candidate.
The program starts at 10 a.m. July 18 at Denny's meeting room, 4020 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Admission is $10 for McGuffey members and $15 for nonmembers and includes refreshments and entertainment. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 330-726-8277.
JCC hosts comedian Talia Reese for Levy series
Comedian Talia Reese will be the next performer for the J. Newman Levy Speaker Series at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.
Reese is a regular performer at Rodney's and the Comic Strip in New York and the Borgata in Atlantic City, N.J.
The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. July 21. Admission is free and dinner is included, but advance registration is required at jccyoungstown.org/newmanlevyseries.
Brickman returns to Stambaugh for Christmas
Pianist Jim Brickman brings his holiday show "A Christmas Celebration" to Stambaugh Auditorium on Dec. 8.
The Shaker Heights' native is a two-time Grammy nominee whose songs have been streamed more than two billion times on Pandora. His annual holiday shows mix music, laughter and the magic of the magic of the season.

Robins announces Elvis Christmas show
Elvis Presley impersonator Dean Z brings his "Ultimate Elvis Christmas" show to the Robins Theatre on Dec. 8.
Dean Z was named the ultimate Elvis tribute artist by Elvis Presley Enterprises in 2013. He is the only Elvis tribute artist who is a host on SiriusXM's Elvis Radio, and he serves as an ambassador for Graceland and the Elvis Presley estate.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show start at $25 plus fees and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
