Community bands play music education fundraiser
A couple of local community bands will be part of a fundraiser for the Ohio Foundation of Music Education on Sunday at the Winery at Wolf Creek, 2637 S. Cleveland Massillon Road, Norton.
The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will open Summer Winds at the Winery, now in its third year, at 11:30 a.m., and the Canfield Community Concert Band will perform at 1:50 p.m. Other acts include Canal Fulton Community Band at 12:40 p.m., Brass Band of the Western Reserve at 3 p.m., Blue Tip Jazz at 4:10 p.m. Western Reserve Community Band at 5:20 p.m., Wadsworth Community Band at 6:30 p.m. and Riverfront Community Band at 7:40 p.m.
Admission is free. Donations will be collected to support the foundation, which supports and advances music education opportunities through advocacy, community engagement and philanthropic support that enriches the lives of students and communities throughout Ohio.
Youngstown State University Professor Emeritus Mike Crist is president of the foundation and past president of the Ohio Music Education Association.
