Boardman High School’s rock orchestra, Project Mayhem, will play its spring concert on March 27.

Founded in 2006, Project Mayhem began as a way to bridge classical training with modern rock. The ensemble had its inaugural performance in March 2007, drawing more than 1,000 people. Since then, it has evolved into a full-scale professional production featuring student vocalists, a professional laser light show and even smoke cannons.

The year’s band features about 45 musicians, and it is directed by Bill Amendol.

It is modeled after the world-renowned Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and members of TSO visited Boardman High School in 2016 to meet with the group, observe a rehearsal, and even join in for an impromptu performance of “Carry On Wayward Son.”

This year’s concert will feature a wide range of music, from Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” to Taylor Swift’s “You Belong to Me.”

The concert starts at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at door 1 of Boardman High School between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on school days.

Starting at $3.23/week.
