Howland library hosts holiday event

A holiday celebration is planned from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Howland Branch, 9095 East Market St. Festivities include children’s crafts, performances by members of the Howland School District Chamber Choir (directed by Mark Semrau) and the arrival of Santa Claus at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available courtesy of the Friends of the Howland Library. Admission is free.

‘End Is Nigh’ set for Darlene Lounge

“The End is Nigh (And Yet, So Far)” will be the next offering in Kent State University at Trumbull Theatre’s Sips & Scripts series. Nate Chapline directs the Greg Mandryk play about a party center hosting a doomsday cult’s big end-of-the-world bash. Mysterious signs have the staff wondering if maybe the cultists are on to something.

It will be presented readers’ theater style at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Darlene Lounge, 145 W. Market St., Warren. Admission is free.

JCC offers Little Groovers dance class

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will offer a dance program in December for children ages 2 to 5.

Little Groovers is designed to allow children to explore music and movement while building gross motor skills. It will feature a kid-friendly obstacle course where children develop imaginations, coordination and balance. It will meet from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Dec. 4, 11 and 18. The cost is $30 for JCC members and $40 for nonmembers. The deadline for registration is Tuesday at jccyoungstown.org/youth.

Buhl band plays holiday concert

The Buhl Community Band, under the direction of Judy L. Mindicino, will present its annual holiday concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the ballroom of Avalon Golf and Country Club, 1030 Forker Blvd., Hermitage, Pa. The 50-plus musicians will play such seasonal favorites as “A Rollicking Hanukkah,” “Away in a Manger,” “Christmas, Baby Please Come Home” and “Sleigh Ride.” “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be narrated by Maria Petrella-Ackley, and audience participation will be part of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Admission is free, and monetary donations will be accepted at the door for the Mercer County Food Warehouse.

Youth acting workshop offered

Award-winning actress Ashley Rozzi (“The Abiding Nail,” “The Blue Moon Rising”) and commercial producer / director, Jim Fogarty of 2 Ticks & The Dog Productions, Inc. will offer a six-week acting workshop starting in January.

Acting for the Camera (Youth and Beyond) is geared towards adolescents (ages 10 to 14) looking to gain experience and learn the techniques needed to act in front of the camera. Auditioning, scene breakdown, improvisation, vocal techniques, using a teleprompter and other skills will be covered. It will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 24 to Feb. 28 at 2 Ticks & The Dog, 197 W. Market St., Suite 201, Warren. The cost is $390, and the deadline for applications is Dec. 15.
