13th Street Theatre presents "Deathtrap" for a two-weekend run.
Written by Ira Levin ("Rosemary's Baby," "The Stepford Wives"), "Deathtrap" is a comedic thriller about a down-on-his-luck playwright Sidney Bruhl (played by Max Seymour), who hasn't written a hit in years. He receives a script from a former student, Clifford Anderson (Justin Brown), that he believes is a guaranteed success.
Sidney's wife Myra (Elizabeth Ginn) suggests a collaboration, and Sidney jokes it would be just as easy to murder Clifford and steal the script for his own, which kicks off a dark chain of events that examine just how far someone will go when they see a shot at success.
"Deathtrap" ran for nearly 1,800 performances on Broadway from 1978 to 1982, and Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve starred in the 1982 film version.
It will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through April 14 at Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for students, senior citizens and military and $13 for children ages 2 to 12 if purchased in advance online at ashtabulaartscenter.org or by calling 440-964-3396.
