Proposals sought for literary festival
Lit Youngstown is seeking proposals for its 8th Fall Literary Festival, which will take place Oct. 17 to 19 at different locations in Youngstown. The event will be centered around reading, writing, publishing, teaching, community outreach and inclusion. Lit Youngstown seeks proposals from a diverse cross section of voices and encourages submissions from those of all ethnicities and orientations.

Grove City College orchestra wins
The Grove City College Symphony Orchestra received third-place honors in its division for the 2023 American Prize in Orchestral Performance.
The orchestra features about 80 students from all majors and is conducted by Jeffrey Tedford, professor and chair of the music department.
The ensemble earned its award for performances recorded during the spring of 2022 that included works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Camille Saint-Saens and Elmer Bernstein.
Zona leads 'Less Than Usual' tour
Louis A. Zona, executive director of the Butler Institute of American Art, will host a tour of its exhibition "Less Than Usual" at 2 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. "Less Than Usual" includes works from the Butler's permanent collection that feature unusual shapes, sizes and/or subject matter.

Museum marks McKinley's birthday
The McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum, 40 N. Main St., will celebrate the birthday of the nation's 25th President with an open house from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Light refreshments and cupcakes will be served, and visitors can tour the museum and learn about William McKinley's early life and presidential life. The museum has a new exhibit focusing on McKinley's service in the Civil War.

Stage Left plans Cline fundraiser
Stage Left Players will have a fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3 to help cover heating costs at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon.
"Wine with Patsy Cline and Friends" will include Niki Slaven-Rettig singing such Cline standards as "Crazy," "Always," "Why Can't He Be You?" and "I Fall to Pieces." Her backing trio of Tyler Stouffer, Brady Duncan and Jacob Ward will be featured on "Love Letters in the Sand," "All I Have to Do Is Dream" and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder," and live music will be provided by Jodine Pilmer, keyboards, and Stephen Ley, drums. Tickets are $20 and include a glass of wine, appetizers and a Patsy Cline bingo card with chances to win bottles of wine, show tickets or a couple massage at Just Breathe Studio.
