Volunteers needed for Summer Arts Festival
The Summer Festival of the Arts is looking for volunteers for its event July 8 and 9 at Wean Foundation Park in downtown Youngstown.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks during the event as well as the day before and day after to assist with set up and tear down.

Warren Women's Park celebrates 20 years
Women's Park in Warren will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an event on Sunday.
Celebratory remarks are scheduled at 1 p.m. in the park, located just north of the Kinsman House, 321 Mahoning Ave. NW. It will be followed by refreshments at the Upton House. It is free and open to the public.
The park was dedicated in 2003 as part of the celebration of the Ohio Bicentennial. Since that time, more than 900 engraved bricks have been placed honoring women.
Eastwood Field hosts 'Field of Dreams' actor
Dwier Brown from the movie "Field of Dreams" will be part of a Dinner on the Diamond event Sept. 30 at Eastwood Field in Niles.
Presented by The Oswald Companies in partnership with Shepherd of the Valley and Shepherd's Foundation, the evening will include a buffet dinner, a silent auction an 50 / 50 raffle, a presentation and Q&A with Brown (who played the father of Kevin Costner's character in the 1989 film), photos in the outfield and a screening of the movie.
Tickets are $75 for general admission and $100 for VIP and $500 and $700 for tables of eight people and are available at the box office and online at mvscrappers.com.
Howland author's novel 'Mayflower Project' out
Carl Elton Cook of Howland has released his novel "The Mayflower Project."
The novel, published by Austin Macauley, tells the story of a mission by the World Space Organization to colonize a planet in the solar system. In order to achieve that goal, the crew must make one supreme and morally corrupt sacrifice. It is described as a work breaking with traditional forms of science fiction.
Cook served as a contributing editor to 20th Century Guitar Magazine from 1991 to 2008. He works in music and video production and is songwriter / guitar player with the rock band SpamRisk. The book is available through its publisher and all major online book retailers.
Museum concludes Packard lecture series
The second and final part of a lecture series on "Warren Packard: Patriarch and Entrepreneur" is scheduled at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at the National Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.
The second part chronicles Warren Packard's illustrious career in the timber and lumber industries, expanding operations to four states, and how the business continued to thrive in downtown Warren decades after his death in 1897.

Century Village marks school's 50th anniversary
This summer Century Village Museum in Burton is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Pioneer School.
An event is planned July 14 and will include tours, square dancing and an opportunity to view scrapbooks chronicling the program's history.
