Kent-Trumbull Theatre, Modern Methods team for brew

Kent State University at Trumbull Theatre’s Sips & Scripts production tonight will be accompanied by a beer release that is a collaboration between the theater and Modern Methods Brewing Company.

This is the second year Kent-Trumbull Theatre has staged new plays by regional playwrights in a readers’ theater format at the brewery at 125 David Grohl Alley, Warren, usually on the first Wednesday of the month. “Hey! Where’s Charlie?” written by Edward J. Walsh and directed by Brian Westerley, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. today.

Kent-Trumbull Theatre Director Eric Kildow collaborated with Modern Methods owners Adam and Sarah Keck to create Ghost Light Porter, brewed with six different specialty malts for a complex flavor profile evoking chocolate, hints of nuts and finishing with dark fruit.

The beer is named for the ghost light that is a theater tradition. Some say it is a safety measure. Others argue it keeps spirits away, and a few believe it allows ghosts to put on their own performances while the actors and audience are away.

Elijah DuPonty of Youngstown designed the label for the can, and the beer will be available both on draft and in cans with a portion of each Ghost Light Porter sold supporting the theater.

Starting at $3.23/week.
