Nathaniel Gumbs will perform Sunday on the E.M. Skinner Pipe Organ at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Gumbs, a Bronx, N.Y., native, is the director of chapel music at Yale University, where he works with students, faculty and guests to coordinate music for multiple worship communities.
Before going to Yale, Gumbs was director of music and arts and church organist as Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C., where he led several hundred volunteer performers in four choirs and ensembles.
Last week, he performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia, his master's degree in music from Yale and his doctorate at Eastman School of Music. The Diapason magazine named Gumbs one of 20 outstanding organists younger than 30 for his achievements in organ performance and church music.
The concert starts at 4 p.m. at Stambaugh, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Tickets range from $8 to $13 and are available online at stambaughauditorium.com, by calling 330-259-9651 and at the box office the day of the concert.
