YSU Theatre announces its spring lineup
Shakespeare, cabaret and dance will be part of the spring University Theatre season at Youngstown State University.
Performances will be available virtually due to continued COVID-19 protocols.
The season opens with “Now You See Us … An Evening of Virtual Dance”at 7:30 p.m. March 25 and 26 and 2 and 7:30 p.m. March 27. Directed by Amy A. Wright, the dance concert features choreography by YSU Dance Program faculty.
Opening at 7:30 p.m. April 9 is “An Evening with Billy Shakes,” a selection of scenes and monologues curated from the work of William Shakespeare. It will be directed by Matthew Mazuroski and will showcase students’ versatility and breadth with selections spanning the comic to the tragic.
Additional performances will be available online at 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 10 and 11, and 17 and 18 and 7:30 p.m. April 16. High school teachers wishing to incorporate the Shakespeare performance into their curriculum may request a special performance time to accommodate their schedule. Tickets for both the dance concert and the Shakespeare production will be available at www.showtix4u.com/events/YoungstownStateUniversity. Ticket prices are $10 for single viewer and $25 for group viewing / watch party. YSU students, faculty and receive one free ticket for each show with inclusion of Banner ID.
“Welcome Spring!” a cabaret-style concert showcasing students in the musical theater program, will debut at 7:30 p.m. April 23 on the Cliffe College YouTube channel. The performance organized by Maria Fenty Denison will offer a groovy evening of out-of-sight music that sparks love, peace, hope and renewal just in time for Earth Day.
The annual Festival of New Work will debut at 7:30 p.m. April 24 on the Cliffe College YouTube channel. A student-centric event, the festival celebrates original student work in film, playwriting, choreography, puppetry and devised performance.
