St. Rose School hosts Police Appreciation Day
GIRARD — St. Rose Catholic School hosted its first-ever Police Appreciation Day on May 10 by welcoming local law enforcement agencies for a day of learning, connection and gratitude as the nation prepared to observe National Police Week.
Principal Anthony Catale said students in grades PreK-8 explored police cruisers, interacted with officers, and learned about the tools and responsibilities involved in keeping communities safe. The morning included police dog demonstrations and hands-on experiences, with each student receiving keepsakes to remember the event.
The event was organized by School Safety Officer Eleanor Harris, whose leadership continues to strengthen school safety and community partnerships.
St. Rose students thanked Girard, Liberty and McDonald police departments, St. Clair Township police dog unit and the Ohio State Highway Patrol
Catale said several participating officers also are parents within the St. Rose community, making the experience especially meaningful for the students as they were able to connect with familiar faces who serve both the school and the broader community.
“Police Appreciation Day is more than just an event; it is an opportunity for our students to live out our faith,” Catale said.
“As we approach National Police Week, it is important that we take time to recognize and thank those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities,” he said.
“Living out our faith means building strong relationships with those who serve our community each day. Hands-on opportunities like this help our students see the value of those partnerships and understand their role in supporting the common good.”
In continued recognition of law enforcement, St. Rose Church also hosted a Blue Mass.
