Mahoning County Plant and Pest Clinic

The clinic continues to address questions throughout the slower winter season as needed. You can submit your questions by calling the office at 330-533-5538 or emailing us at mahoningclinic@osu.edu. Please attach photos and add any information that would help research your plant and pest questions.

How to Start Plants from Seeds

What: Join our Master Gardener Volunteers to discuss the most up-to-date information available to help you successfully start your plants from seed.

When: 11 a.m. Wednesday

Where: Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County main branch, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown

Naturalist Series: Iron Ore in the Valley

What: The Naturalist Series invites subject matter experts to share their knowledge and research regarding different aspects of nature. Topics range from animals, plants, insects, and more. The speaker will be Diana Alexander, geologist and Mill Creek MetroParks educator.

When: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday

Where: OSU Extension-Mahoning, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield.

Cost: $5 per class or $30 for the series

Basic Bread Making Class is Friday

What: Learn the basics of making delicious homemade yeast bread in this fun, beginner-friendly class! No experience is needed — just bring your curiosity and we’ll walk you through every step.

Med Instead of Meds: Swap your fats

What: Ohio State University Extension is launching a monthly virtual education series designed to help participants adopt the Mediterranean way of eating through simple, practical and delicious lifestyle steps.

The Med Instead of Meds program will guide attendees through seven approachable strategies to “Go Med,” emphasizing great taste, everyday life hacks and healthy recipe ideas.

How to start your plants from seeds

What: Join us to learn the most up-to-date information available to help you successfully start your plants from seeds.

Starting plants from seeds can save you money and increase the variety of plants available for your gardens, especially those hard-to-find natives needed for our pollinators.

Speakers: Peg Zeleznik, Master Gardener Volunteer, and Kristen Eisenhauer, 4-H and Agriculture & Natural Resources Educator

When: 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 25

Where: OSU Extension-Mahoning, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield.

Cost: $10, which includes speakers, demonstrations, handouts and seeds to take home.
