Senior levy supports information and referrals
If you are an older Trumbull County adult, SCOPE Senior Services assists you with various programs and services.
SCOPE stands for Senior Citizens Opportunity for Personal Endeavors and is one of many agencies supported financially by the Trumbull County senior levy.
SCOPE, Help Network and Direction Home offer older adult information and referral services.
We receive thousands of calls a year from family members as well as caregivers wanting to know how local senior levy services can assist their elderly loved ones. These senior citizen needs provided by senior levy agencies include financial, housing, utilities, meals, transportation, homemaker, chore services, employment, adult protective services, ombudsman support and personal care.
We at SCOPE received some 4,000 phone calls in 2023 from seniors, their children, grandchildren and caregivers on many topics of concern or needs for the individuals or families. I asked our receptionist Carol Bovee who takes incoming calls to list for me the various topics callers asked about over the past few months.
There are many ways we can help either through SCOPE or through a senior levy vendor:
Free transportation, food services, mental health, utility assistance, legal and notary help, adult medical supplies, house maintenance, insurance advice, tax paperwork, home accessibility and even help with raising grandchildren, name a handful.
Long story short: many requests for help come in.
Many children or grandchildren call us asking for programs and activities for their family members to participate in, so we promote all of the senior centers throughout Trumbull County.
For those seniors who don’t use any services yet, I can tell you from my training and experiences that most older adults, depending on how long they live will need support through the senior levy programs sometime in their life.
Without our Trumbull County senior levy many benefits to the elderly will become non-existent and senior centers will be forced to close as the quality of life for our older adults will be worse.
For more information on any of these benefits, visit any SCOPE senior center or call 330-399-8846.
