MVSD nearing pick for engineer

MINERAL RIDGE — Several “extremely qualified” candidates are being considered as the next chief engineer of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District and he or she will be able to decide if the position of plant operations manager — a position eliminated by the board last month — is necessary, a board member said. Richard Hale, the appointee of Niles council to the four-person board, said he is hopeful the next chief engineer will be selected in the next two months. NILES — Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members will arrive at Fairhaven School on Aug. 5 for their 16th annual visit during the Journey of Hope. The bicyclists started their journey June 11 in San Francisco. Bruce R. Torrence 1961-2017

GIRARD — Bruce Robert Torrence, 55, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Bruce was born Nov. 7, 1961, in Warren, the son of Robert E. and Marjorie Ann Burns Torrence. Bruce graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1980. He was employed at Indalex Aluminum Company, Girard Bruce is survived by his wife, Lisa Priester Torrence; a son, Alexander Torrence at home; mother, Marjorie Ann Torrence of Niles; twin brother, Brian Torrence of Howland; and a sister, Kathryn Stanley of Niles.
