Brookfield student leads fundraiser for Adrienne’s Army

BROOKFIELD – A Brookfield student is turning a deeply personal connection into an opportunity to help families in the community through a schoolwide Pink Out.
Brookfield student Rosalie Guthrie recently approached her teacher, Melanie Horn, with an idea to raise money for Adrienne's Army, a local nonprofit organization established in memory of Adrienne Litman-Toth, who died from stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2015. For Guthrie, the cause holds a special meaning.
Her mother, Natalie Olson, and Litman-Toth became friends while they were both battling cancer. Although both women ultimately lost their battles with the disease, the friendship they shared continues to inspire Guthrie.
That connection became the inspiration behind Brookfield's Pink Out and an effort to support other families facing cancer.
For Guthrie, the project is about more than raising money. It provides an opportunity to help others while honoring the memory of her mother and Litman-Toth.
As part of the fundraising effort, Horn's leadership students will sell pink bandanas for $1 each throughout Brookfield Local Schools. Proceeds will benefit Adrienne's Army and its mission of supporting cancer research and providing financial assistance to families impacted by cancer.
Adrienne's Army also has deep ties to the Brookfield community. Litman-Toth’s father, John Litman, is a 1971 Brookfield High School graduate who has spent decades supporting Brookfield youth through coaching and community service. A former Brookfield Board of Education member and longtime basketball coach, Litman continues to give back to the community while helping carry on his daughter's legacy through Adrienne's Army.
Guthrie’s idea brings those connections together in a meaningful way.
What began as a friendship between Olson and Litman-Toth during their cancer journeys is now inspiring a new generation of Brookfield students to help families facing similar challenges.
Through the Pink Out, Guthrie has taken a difficult personal experience and turned it into an opportunity to make a difference for others. Her willingness to share her story and take action is bringing Brookfield students and the community together to honor those who have battled cancer, support those who are still fighting and remember loved ones whose impact continues long after they are gone.
