Robert Morris drills Penguins
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Kendale Hampton’s 21 points tied a career high with his seven 3-pointers, accounting for about half of Youngstown State’s offense in the Penguins 76-56 loss at Robert Morris Wednesday.
No other YSU player scored in double figures. Jelani Simmons and Garrett Covington each had nine points for the Penguins (3-5).
Malik Petteway paced the Colonials (4-3) with 16 points, while Matty McConnell, Josh Williams and Jon Williams each had 12. Koby Thomas had 10 points.
Olmaide Peterson’s free throw with 19:22 remaining tied the game at 32.
From there, Robert Morris went on a 19-0 run in the second half, holding YSU scoreless for about 8 minutes. The Colonials led 51-32 with 12:11 left and rolled to Wednesday’s win.
The Penguins countered and cut the deficit to 55-44, but got no closer.
YSU shot 20 of 57 from the floor and 11 of 34 from 3, while Robert Morris was 25 of 57 from the floor and 9 of 19 from 3.
The Penguins committed 18 turnovers to the Colonials’ seven.
