Ritter twins could go 1-on-1 in Westminster-YSU tilt

YOUNGSTOWN -- Anthony Ritter had that confidence, the same one a player gets when the team is blowing out an opponent.

Westminster did that Saturday.

Ritter, a South Range High School graduate, made two 3-pointers as the Titans almost eclipsed 100 points in a lopsided victory over Penn State-Beaver. It was a good time to find a rhythm.

Anthony's twin brother, Dan, will be waiting for him tonight as Westminster travels to Youngstown State. Tipoff at the Beeghly Center is at 7 p.m.

The two aren't used to being on different teams. They both wore the Raiders uniform and played for the dean of area high school coaches, John Cullen, for the past four seasons.

Anthony's teammate and Girard graduate Dylan O'Hara was egging him on after Saturday's win. Anthony hopes he faces his brother tonight.

"I'm going to get up to him and talk crap to him," Anthony said.

Dan got a chuckle when he heard that one as a reporter repeated it to him.

"He won't be talking smack," he said with a sigh.

The two are on the team's benches for tonight's game. Anthony is part of a dominant Presidents' Athletic Conference team. Dan thought he'd be with his brother and be a Titan.

Cullen got a call from YSU coach Jerrod Calhoun, asking if the twins would be interested in walk-on tryouts last spring.

Anthony committed to Westminster and Dan thought after his tryout he'd be going the same way. No call for a couple of weeks, but then YSU called Dan and wanted him to be a Penguin. He's one of seven walk-on players on this 20-man roster.

Dan thought he'd redshirt this season, but he made the roster that dresses for YSU games.

He said if it weren't for Cullen, who changed the culture at South Range, neither he or Anthony would be at this level.

"If it wasn't for him coming to South Range, I don't know if either one of us would be playing college ball right now," Dan said.

Tonight, the South Range team is coming to the game after practice.

Who knows, it may be Ritter vs. Ritter sometime tonight?

"If that happens, that'll be something no one has ever seen in a while," Dan said.
