≤ BRISTOL 91, MAPLEWOOD 51: BRISTOLVILLE -- Bristol never looked back in a large win on the road against Maplewood in the Battle for the Paddle.
Tommy Donadio used the 3-ball early and often as he canned eight 3-pointers while scoring 32 points to lead Bristol (3-0). Maplewood (0-3) was outmatched and couldn't find its way back. Tommy Rink and Hunter Bates led the way for the Rockets with 15 points each.
The Panthers hit more threes than twos (15 to 14). Gage Elza had 22 points with six steals while Bryan Gabrielson had 19 points to go along with seven assists to push the Panthers to victory.
≤ McDONALD 84, WATERLOO 52: ATWATER -- Zach Rasile scorched Waterloo for 40 points, and teammate Braedon Poole went off for another 33 as the duo dominated a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference contest.
Rasile was a perfect 18-for-18 from the free-throw line and added four 3-pointers as the Blue Devils (3-0, 1-0) took a 45-29 halftime lead. Poole carried McDonald in the first half with 20 points, and Rasile closed things out with 22 in the final two quarters, including 12 free throws.
Vaughn Dorsey paced the Vikings with 22 points.
≤ BADGER 76, ASHTABULA ST. JOHN 43: ASHTABULA -- A blowout of a third quarter put Badger on top as Ashtabula St. John scored just five points in the quarter. Badger (3-0) led by just eight at the half, but the Braves used great defense to wear down St. John (0-3). Aiden Miller led Badger with 16 points. The Braves also outshot St. John from the 3-point line, eight to four.
The Fighting Heralds were led by Alex Pope, who had a game-high 19 points.
≤ LOWELLVILLE 72, MINERAL RIDGE 37: LOWELLVILLE -- A bad first half buried Mineral Ridge as Lowellville ran away with the win.
The Rockets (4-0, 1-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference) used a strong defensive first half to pull away. Lowellville led Mineral Ridge (0-3, 0-1), 39-10, at halftime.
Nate Solak hit four 3s for 16 points and Alex Mamula-Zarlingo also had 16 points for the Rockets. For the Rams, Jordan Zupko led with 13 points while no other player had more than five in the loss.
≤ MATHEWS 84, HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN 34: VIENNA -- Mathews claimed its first victory of the season after three losses, jumping out to a 30-12 lead after one quarter and building the lead to 70-18 at halftime.
Sean McDivitt led the Mustangs with 18 points, Zak Arnio had 14, John Smith 13 and Tyler Roscoe 11.
Heartland Christian (0-4) was led by Joe Donofrio with nine points.
≤ SPRINGFIELD 83, JACKSON-MILTON 54: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Jackson-Milton's first game in the new Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference was a loss to the undefeated Tigers. Springfield scored at least 19 points in every quarter, J-M's best quarter output was 18 in the third.
Mason Robison led the Blue Jays (1-3, 0-1) with 19 points and Taylor Kleinknecht added 18.
≤ WESTERN RESERVE 74, SEBRING 59: SEBRING -- Two big runs, one in the first quarter and another in the third, allowed the Blue Devils to get past Sebring in a MVAC matchup.
Western Reserve (2-1, 1-1) held a 20-9 advantage in the first quarter and a 14-3 edge in the third (a difference of 22 points). Kade Hilles and Jack Cappabianca each scored 15 points to pace the Blue Devils. Hilles also recorded six assists and four steals, and Cappabianca grabbed nine rebouds. Cole DeZee also chipped in with 11 points.
Sebring, which outscored Reserve 47-40, in the other two quarters, made 12 3-pointers. Joey Clark (17 points) and Gabe Lanzer (15) made five 3s each.
≤ ROOTSTOWN 63, WINDHAM 61: ROOTSTOWN -- A bad fourth quarter by Windham was all that needed to happen for Rootstown to steal a home win. Windham (3-1), which led 51-44 going into the fourth quarter, got quality scoring from the Angle brothers. Blaze had 19 while Mason put in 22.
Scott Steger led the Rovers with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. He also scored 11 of Rootstown's 19 fourth-quarter points to get the win (the Rovers held a 19-10 edge in the fourth).
