SALEM -- Thomas "Mot" Dutko, 67, of Salem, formerly of Chicago, Ill., died at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Salem Regional Medical Center with family and friends gathered around him.
Mot was born Dec. 31, 1949, in Salem, to Frank and Dorothy Straub Dutko.
He had an associate degree and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mot was a rhythm and blues musician for 54 years who played with Homesick James, Eddie Shaw and the Wolfgang, Little Al Thomas and Crazy House Blues Band and most recently Matt Dupree Band with local Salem musicians. He was most proud of Crazy House Blues Band playing in Lucerene, Switzerland, at the International Blues Fest. Tom worked for Lyon and Healy Harp Co. and a home remodeling contractor.
He was an avid Browns, Indians, Cavs die-hard fan. He enjoyed teaching the history of music and had a photographic memory of facts, lyrics and musician association for the blues and rock and roll bands. His love of music helped him journey through a tough 14-year illness.
Survivors include his siblings and their families, Dorie Dutko of North Benton, Mrs. Delbert (Carrie) McElrath of Southington, Jeane Dutko (Larry) of Berlin Center, and Mrs. James (Joan) Hilton, Rich (Trish) Dutko and Jack (Lisa) Dutko, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces and nephews, Lindsey, Corey, Luke, Austin and Alyssa; and a great-nephew, Zain.
He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Patty Echols (Charlie).

Interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
Adams Mason Funeral Home, 79 East Market St., Akron, was responsible for his cremation.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
