Howard G. Smith Jr.
NEWTON FALLS — Howard Gale Smith Jr., 49, of Newton Falls, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at his residence.
He was born July 26, 1967, in Ravenna, the son of Howard Gale Smith Sr. and Shari Colleen Prusky Lallanilla.
Howard graduated from Southeast High School in 1986, where he played football.
Howard then joined the service, where he was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving for 21 years and achieving the rank of Master Sgt. While serving in the Air Force, Howard earned his associate’s degree in electronics from the University of Maryland.
After his retirement from the service, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Wayland Baptist University in Alaska. He was working on his master’s degree in human resources.
He was employed as a Quality Control Inspector with Coontz Excavating. Howard was a member of the American Legion in Alaska. He coached his sons in football in their younger leagues. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers fan. He celebrated the Cavaliers championship in Cleveland this past year. Howard was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Howard is survived by his wife,Yolanda Smith of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; sons, Howard Smith of Puerto Rico and Shawn Smith of North Pole, Alaska; his father, Howard G. (Denise) Smith Sr. of Ravenna and mother, Shari C. (Jose) Lallanilla of Southington; and sisters, Kelli (Jeff) Lock and Jennifer (Shane) Kuberry, both of Ravenna; brother, Joshua (Samantha) Smith of Deerfield; and his grandson, Howard Dane Smith.
Calling hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at James Funeral Home, where 7 p.m. funeral services will immediately follow.
Howard will be laid to rest with his grandfather, at Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township.
