MINERAL RIDGE — Specialty Pipe & Tube Inc. which has a local plant, has announced the retirement of longtime employee and vice president Ron Granato.

Specialty Pipe is the nation’s leading distributor of large-diameter, heavy-wall carbon steel pipe and mechanical tubing. The company, which also has an office in Houston, supplies products to pipe and tube distributors, machine shops, companies in the oil and gas industry and makers of hydraulic cylinders, among others.

“For his nearly 50 years here at Specialty, Ron was always a true professional,” said Specialty Pipe & Tube President Steve Baroff. “Ron was instrumental in the success of this company during his time here.”

Baroff said Granato began his career at Specialty Pipe in 1969.

“With his well-earned retirement, Ron takes with him a tremendous amount of talent and experience,” Baroff added. “He’s been a leader, a teacher and, most importantly, a friend to us and to our valued customers. He’ll be missed tremendously.”

Granato, who attended Youngstown State University and the University of Pittsburgh, worked closely with Specialty Pipe & Tube founder Leonard Baroff during the company’s formative years, and beyond. He continued to play an important role in the company when Len’s son, Steve, took over as president in 2001.

Granato and his wife, Joyce, will relocate to Naples, Fla., to be closer to their daughter, Sera, and granddaughter. Granato’s plans include one of his favorite hobbies, playing tennis, and purchasing a boat to enjoy the beautiful Florida waters.

Granato’s responsibilities will be split among associates in Specialty’s sales and purchasing departments. Baroff added that specifics about the restructuring would be released in the coming weeks.
