WARREN -- U.S. Rep. Timothy J. Ryan is scheduled to appear on "The View" today, where he is expected to announce his presidential campaign, according to a BuzzFeed article.
BuzzFeed, Inc. is an American internet media, news and entertainment company with a focus on digital media based in New York City, according to its website.
Ryan, D-Howland, visited New Hampshire in February and was in Iowa this past weekend to test the water for a presidential run. In February, Ryan said he was "strongly considering" running for president in 2020.
"The country is divided, as we all know, and there is no way for us to fix our economy and help workers and face all of the challenges we have when we are so divided," Ryan said in February.
Dan Polivka, chairman of the Trumbull County Democratic Party, confirmed Ryan will be making an announcement today.
"Out of respect to the congressman, I will let him give the announcement," Polivka said.
Ryan is serving his ninth term in Congress since first elected in 2003. In the past, he was rumored as a Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, U.S. senator and vice president. He unsuccessfully challenged California Democrat Nancy Pelosi, now Speaker of the House, for minority leader in 2016 after Democrats suffered deep losses in November of that year.
Ryan previously said the decision to go after the Democratic leadership position was "one of the best professional decisions" he had ever made.
According to BuzzFeed, Ryan is planning a Youngstown rally for Saturday, and leaders of local organized labor are expected to attend.
Bill Padisak, president of the Mahoning-Trumbull AFL-CIO, told BuzzFeed he has been asked to help draw a crowd for the event.
"I believe he is going to announce his candidacy for the presidency," Padisak told BuzzFeed.
Polivka said he heard talk of the rally, but could not confirm it or provide details. Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman Dave Betras could not be reached for comment.
Michael Zetts, spokesperson for Ryan, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday evening.
