CORTLAND -- Longtime Lakeview Local School District Superintendent Robert Wilson will retire effective July 31, he has announced to the Board of Education.

The board officially accepted Wilson's retirement resignation last week.

Wilson has spent most of his career with the Lakeview school district serving since the 1980s as a teacher, high school principal for 14 years since 1991 and, most recently, as superintendent since 2005. For a few years he worked as an assistant principal with Liberty schools and was a teacher also at Warren and Liberty schools.

Board of Education President Larry Sherer said Sunday the board will be seeking applications to fill the position with Wilson assisting with the search for a new superintendent.

Wilson became superintendent in 2005 replacing Matthew Chojancki who retired. He received his bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster in economics and history. He holds a master's degree in school administration from Westminster College.

Wilson did not return calls seeking further comment about his retirement plans.

In other business, the board of education last week ratified a new three-year agreement with the Lakeview Support Staff Association which represents the district's classified workers which include bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodial and maintenance staff and secretaries.

The contract is effective retroactive to June 16, and runs through June 15, 2021.

Sherer said the employees will receive 2.25 percent increases in each of the contract's first and second years, and a 2 percent increase in the third year, which was the same as the district's teachers received in their new agreement approved last summer.

Sherer said there are about 50 classified employees represented by the contract.
