Newton Falls

WHAT: Board of Education meeting May 17

PRESENT: Debra Davis, Amie Crowder, Kenneth Kline, Brent Powell and Jennifer Urbania

The Board:

• Approved a new two-year contract agreement through 2020 with the Newton Falls Classroom Teachers Association with no pay increases. Treasurer Jonathan Pusateri said the union, which represents 70 teachers, also accepted the agreement. The district has faced limited finances and is closing the elementary school as cost savings;

• Approved special education intervention specialist Jody Kays as career-based intervention instructor for the junior high;

• Approved a shared services agreement with Lordstown Local Schools for a school psychologist. Pusateri said Newton Falls will hire the psychologist and then share the employee with Lordstown to save both districts between $20,000 and $30,000 annually.
